Yellow represents the Earth, from which a plant takes root and begins to grow. This symbolizes how your Tae Kwon Do foundation is being established and taking root.

Chon-Ji Pattern
Number of Movements: 19
Meaning: Chon-Ji means “Heaven and Earth.” In Oriental philosophy, this represents the creation of the world and the beginning of human history. As the first pattern learned, it consists of two similar parts – one representing Heaven and the other Earth.
Starting Position: Parallel ready stance
The pattern assumes you are standing on line AB and facing D
Movement Sequence
- Move the left foot to B, forming a left walking stance while executing a low block with the left forearm.
- Move right foot to B, forming right walking stance while executing middle punch with right fist.
- Turn clockwise, move the right foot to A, form the right walking stance, and execute a low block with the right forearm.
- Move the left foot to A, forming a left walking stance while executing the middle punch with the left fist.
- Move the left foot to D, forming a left walking stance while executing a low block with the left forearm.
- Move the right foot to D, forming the right walking stance while executing the middle punch with the right fist.
- Turn clockwise, move the right foot to C, form the right walking stance, and execute a low block with the right forearm.
- Move the left foot to C, forming a left walking stance while executing the middle punch with the left fist.
- Move the left foot to A, forming the right L-stance while executing a middle block with the left inner forearm.
- Move the right foot to A, forming a right walking stance while executing the middle punch with the right fist.
- Turn clockwise, move right foot to B, forming left L-stance while executing middle block with right inner forearm.
- Move the left foot to B, forming a left walking stance while executing the middle punch with the left fist.
- Move the left foot to C, forming right L-stance while executing a middle block with the left inner forearm.
- Move the right foot to C, forming the right walking stance while executing the middle punch with the right fist.
- Turn clockwise, move the right foot to D, form left L-stance, and execute middle block with the right inner forearm.
- Move the left foot to D, forming a left walking stance while executing middle punch with the left fist.

End: Bring the left foot back to ready posture
Practice Tips
- Pay special attention to your stances – proper L-stance requires 70% of weight on back leg
- Focus on clean, precise transitions between movements in Chon-Ji
- Practice the pattern in sections before attempting the full sequence
- When performing double punch, ensure the first punch retracts fully before executing the second
- For front snap kick, aim to snap the leg back quickly after extension
- Practice in front of a mirror when possible to check your technique
